The best sparkling shiraz!
I love this sparkling shiraz, Paringa is much better than Shingleback Black Bubbles and The Chook. Both 2008 and 2009 are very good!

Love Sparkling Reds!
During my visit to Australia I fell in love with sparking reds. As a Cabernet and Merlot drinker, I always found white sparklers to be too light. The sparkling Shirazes in Australia are wonderful. Since my return to the US, I have searched for a comparably wonderful sparkling red. This one is quite good. Until US sparkling wine drinkers get with the program, this is probably as good as we'll get.

Not what a good sparkling shiraz should be
I am dissapointed with this sparkler, it has way too much proprietary sweetness, and no real depth. A good sparkling shiraz should be a reasonably big wine, with complex flavours discovered late on the palate, finishing mostly dry with only enough residual sweetness to slightly coat the tongue. This is a sparking shiraz that uses sub-par fruit and doped up with sugar for the US market and not a good example of this great Aussie tradition, I have not seen this wine available in Ausralia for at least a decade, so it suggests they are focusing on the export market. I had a Black Chook here last year and it was definately better than the Paringa (and still sold in Oz). My go-to reasonably priced sparkling shiraz is the Fox Creek "Vixen", and failing that try anything from Bleasdale. This wine style is either unknown or mis-understood in the US which is both a suprise & a pity. It is perfect on those warm summer nights when you're doing the "barbie" thing (outdoor grilling). After having your mandatory fill of ales, when a great spread of steak , hamburgers or ribs present themselves and you're looking to go to wine and the only choices confronting you are a cold white wine or rose or a warm red, neither choice seems right. Enter the chilled sparkling shiraz, also great with pizza! And yes I'm an Aussie and have been gratefully imbibing the sparkling shiraz for over 20 years. And always serve well chilled, ENJOY!

Sparkling wine with meat!
Unlike sparkiling white zins and Asti's, this is a red sparkling Shiraz that's not sweet. It's a little fruity but has a dry finish compared to wines from above. One of the few sparkling wines that you could have with steak or BBQ's. Pair with maybe a Kobe-style beef salad?
