Baked pineapple and mild oak make their way into the odd bouquet of the Frei Brothers chardonnay. In this case, however, the odd bouquet gives way to an equally strange palate. Dry, medicinal notes overwhelm the senses as the tongue meets the glass. While butteriness also accompanies said medicinal notes, it exists as a strange, almost fruity essence that doesn’t quite evoke the creamy and savory profile that one might expect from a buttery chardonnay. Would I swim in it? I’m not quite sure that this liquid screams that it’s safe to dive into it head first. Or even feet first for that matter.
