Excellent Daily Bourbon
Four roses yellow label is an excellent daily go-to bourbon. We've been through bottles of this. Yes, it's not as sophisticated as high end bourbons, but it's not intended for that. It's a good mixer that is also still very good with a little ice. I highly recommend a visit to their beautiful distillery. One more thing, during a recent visit to Paris the epicenter of culinary discrimination, we visited countless small markets - no sign of Jim Beam, Parisians drink Four Roses yellow label.

Better, cheaper bourbons out there.
The single barrel is very good, but for this price buy the 1.75 of Evan Williams.

Basic bourbon
Definitely a mixing bourbon or one to throw some ice cubes into and enjoy on a hot summer day in front of the grill. Do not expect this bourbon to quench the thirst of flavors and variety, it is just too flat and basic. But, if you want a nice, clean Old Fashion or Manhattan you could do worse.

Tastes like alcohol and burnt cherries. Looking for Carmel and it is just Not There. Rather flat on flavors. The smell is kind of non existent. I know of much better bourbons for less.

OK for a Budget Bourbon
For the money, it's a good bargain bourbon. I'm disappointed in it though. Reading the tasting notes, I don't get it. To me it's harsh, and takes more water than I'm used to using in my glass. I usually drink bourbon neat, or with a little water. When I added more water, the bourbon did open up and sweeten up a bit with a taste of honey, but I'm not tasting any fruit, chocolate, coffee, or leather. I'm not a cocktail drinker, but this would be fine for that. I will stick with Buffalo Trace or Maker's for a good sipping bourbon at a good price. Of course, if you want to pay more, you can get a much better bourbon. I know Four Roses has many other offerings that I may like better.

Here's your house grog
This is what you stock the bar with - every day bourbon. Try it, it has no flaws, and perhaps the best value on the bourbon shelf. This is an exemplary edition of our national drink. At 80#, it sips easily over ice. Flowery nose; the glenliviet of bourbon.

A very good Non-GMO bourbon
This is a very good price for a good bourbon. It's also made with guaranteed Non-GMO corn! The only other company to do this is Wild Turkey, that I know of. Companies like Jack Daniels use GMO corn in their products. Thank you Four Roses and Wild Turkey!

Best "Value" Whiskey
Jim Rutledge, the master distiller at Four Roses, has really done wonders at resurrecting this brand -- the most popular bourbon in America during the 30s, 40s, and 50s. As primarily a Scotch drinker that fell back in love with bourbon, I really love all the different flavor profiles that Four Roses offers. They have 5 different yeast recipes and 2 different mash bills, which allows them to come up with a wide range of flavors. They are also one of two distilleries that uses 100% non-GMO corn in their mash bills (Wild Turkey is the other). Four Roses Yellow Label tastes more like a Highland or a Speyside Scotch than your usual bourbon to me. It is golden yellow, with strong citrus/ floral notes, a light mouth feel, and a dry, clean finish. It's refreshingly different than the usual smoky/ caramel/ sweet bourbon profile. It's a good all-purpose, everyday whiskey for me (especially since I know a place where I can get this for under $17 a bottle). It will stand out enough in most cocktails, but is still very drinkable neat, with a bit of water, or with an ice cube or two. I fell in love with Four Roses after trying a few of their single barrel offerings, so if you're not familiar with Four Roses it may be better to start with the Single Barrel or Small Batch to see what this distillery can really do. After that, do yourself a favor and come back to this one. You'll be amazed at what you're getting for under $20 per bottle.
