Saldo is back on track
The 2009 Saldo was good but no match for the great 2008. Now the 2010 is back on track. This is a big zin but without the overwhelming fruit found in many styles. Good value and cellar worthy.

Great Zin for the money.
Beautiful Zin.....the nose reeks of class in the glass (better use a wide mouth to get the full effect). Not green to me right now....but I have a case and the two bottles tested so far do taste a little different. Sampled this at Fleming's locally (chilled to 57-59 deg) and decided it was so good I had to have some. Not your typical Zin, but a clean, classy and fruity but not a jammy/heavy Zin. I have had it straight out of the bottle, decanted for a few hours and a day or two later at room temp which is 79 deg here in FL and at 64 deg out of my chiller. Personally I like it best at room temp and opened for a day or two. Very high alcohol at 15.5%, but not noticeable while drinking, however very much so the next day if I have more than two glasses! I am hoping I see consistency in the remaining 10 bottles. For the money this is the best Zin I have found. Drinks like a bottle twice the price. Not too high in pepper like the Cline Ancient Vine Zin and wayyyy more refined. Though I like the Cline when in the mood for a real basic peppery Zin. Shades of "The Prisoner" when you first hold it to your nose. Both are blends with more of the Zin in this Saldo than in "Prisoner" about 78% vs. 55% but remarkably similar up front in the glass. You can definitely tell the two wines from Orin Swift are brothers.

This wine was HIGHLY recommended so I was excited to try it. Did not love it at all. I think it might be really good in a year or so but it definitely needs some time time for all of the nuances to blend together. It just tasted very green and I decanted it for hours. I had my 21 year old son and my husband taste it without saying a word and they felt the same way about it.
