A College-Only Vodka
The perfect vodka to serve your guests.  At your fraternity party.  Animal houses aside, Thomas S. said it best.  You get what you pay for.  A bottom shelf vodka that is not the best (bottom shelf vodka).  But scarily, not the worst.  I recall Albertson's (the grocery store) once had their own brand vodka, which was even cheaper (and significantly worse).  So if you are a George of the Jungle (juice) and want the animal house special, look no further.  The plastic jug is waiting for you.

It smells good and tastes good.  It has some bite but it is hard to tell versus more expensive stuff.  It has a fairly strong bitter taste to me, but that seems common among most vodkas.  It seems like my body chemistry must change from day to day--some days it is bitter--some days I don't notice it.  I think it compares well to other low priced Vodkas including Smirnoffs.  This is much better than Skol to me.

Could be worse, but there are better options
Comparing Popov to good vodkas is pointless. You need to accept it for what it is: a bottom shelf vodka. Are there worse bottom shelf vodkas? Yes. Are there better? Unfortunately yes. If you're making punch or something else that's sweet enough to cover the burn, Popov really isn't all that bad considering the price. I've used it for candy infused vodka and didn't get any complaints. However if you're making cocktails or planning to drink it straight, I'd advise you to try something else. Svedka only runs about $3 more a bottle and is significantly higher quality. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.

has other uses
As a drinking alcoholic beverage Popov is not great at all; it is bitter and at room temperature it leaves a lasting and unpleasant aftertaste. On the other hand, it is great as winter windshield washer when mixed with a little bit (a table spoon per gallon) of Simple Green.
