Smooth with a nice glow.
Really smooth for the price. A nice glow of an aftertaste, and you can follow the path of your first sip. This is definately a sipping tequila and will worth the price.  I'm in the market for a few more to take on my summer trips.

Great bang for your buck
Personally, I would not recommend shooting this tequila (or any decent anejo for that matter). I was introduced to San Matias at a local restaurant that has an amazing selection of tequilas. Long story short, this is one of the selections the bartenders thought very highly of and I can't disagree. Very smooth and very complex for the price.

Very salty taste. Not good for shots. Don't know how it had a good rating from anyone else. Not what I expected for $40. Have had better tequila for half the price. Would not buy again. Wish I could get a refund on this bottle.

Received the San Matias Gran Reserva as a Christmas gift after I told my wife about the other review on the tequila. I found it to be a nicely aged, three-year sipping anejo. It is smooth, a bit woody, and nicely balanced with the mildly sweet agave. Very light vanilla hints. Good body but the start to finish is fairly constant with no surprises. Although the San Matias has its own character, a comparable quality anejo is the three-year Tres Generaciones. Definitely enjoyable but didn't knock my socks off like the pricier and more complex Tres Manos or even pricier Reserva de la Familia.
