Luckily we all do not have the same tastes. Glad that the "formaldehyde-gent" does not approve of it and presumably drinks something else, more for me then. For my tastes it is the best "blended" Whisky, only surpassed by Couvreur's Single Single Malt. FG incidentally was the Queen's sister; Princess Margret's favourite. Cheers!

Give it a try!
Surprised to read Kevin's review...never tasted formaldehyde nor would I want it in my Scotch. I couldn't stand Scotch until a good friend of mine introduced me to I'm close to liking it too much! When I can't find FG, Red Label or Dewars will suffice but I really do prefer FG. I drink it (or any other Scotch) on the rocks (which I know is sacrilegious to some) and find it very smooth and enjoyable. There's got to be a reason it's the top selling blend in Scotland?  P.S. - I find that plastic insert thing to be a pain in the a$$...I guess that's what makes the world go round?

Not terrible, but still not even worth the cheap cost.
First of all, I'll say that I'm a huge fan of The Black's one of my favorite scotchs, so no hard feelings against the company. But The Famous Grouse scotch just misses the mark. It's not terrible like some $10 plastic-bottled liquor, but it's still not appealing, especially not for the money. It has this weird formaldehyde-taste tinge to it. Maybe if you like salty / vinegar things like pickles, bloody-mary's, or salty-dogs, you could enjoy this, but I just don't. It's also annoying that there's no plastic insert in the neck of the bottle (like Jameson's 1.75L) to make it pour smooth...sloshes everywhere. If you're looking for a mid-range flavored, cheap scotch that has a decent-enough taste, I'd go with Johnnie Walker Red Label. However, I can't say enough good things about The Black Grouse...grab a bottle if you can because I often find my local Bevmo down to 1 bottle. Though it has a very different taste...has a very smooth and pleasant smokey / peaty taste.

Best taste, Best buy in blended Scotch
Very smooth and easy to drink blended Scotch. Has a great taste and is the best bargain if you like the taste of Scotch, but don't want to spend big bucks on expensive single malt.
