This is simply the best everyday Scotch anyone should ever buy! With smooth palates and rich boldness, 12 is the class of the "regular" scotch...The 18 is for Big Boys however this is a great starter!

From Speyside region in Scotland, and one of the best producers of scotch whiskey, George Smith founded Glenlivet in 1824, and is now one of the distilleries owned by the French company Pernod Ricard. While many distilleries in Scotland were run illegally during the 18th century to avoid the excise tax of 1823, George Smith was one of the few distillers who obtained a permit, and run his distillery through legal means, hence guaranteeing the consistency and quality of Glenlivet scotches. Aged in used French oak casks where they stored cognac, and used American bourbon casks, endows this scotch that unique character, and flavor. It is light amber in color, and has a slightly oily texture. Along with essence of perfumed wood, scattered floral notes, restrained vanilla creme pie, a wisp of smoke, and hints of citrus orange peels on the nose. When you take that first sip after a few drops of water, thick buttery mouthfeel with slight doses of toasted oak , rich creamy barley, hints of vanilla ice cream, creamy butterscotch, whispers of toasted cereal, pear juice, and decadent almond butter become more pronounced. As I chew a bit longer, I begin to notice fresh home baked oatmeal cookies, sweet malt candy, muted heather and scant aniseed notes, and loads of green apple peels dominate the palate for quite sometime before they dissipate. Instead of the alcohol burn, a rather warm and pleasing sensation livens up the palate. Finally, it ends with a smooth, long, dry and peppery finish, at the same time leaving your palate with polished tropical pineapple undertones.

Floral, citrusy, refreshing. Truly enjoyable for my palate as one who prefers mostly Bourbons. I really like this, if I had to point out a flaw it would be that it is too easy drinking. I could quite literally sip it all day long. A superb beginner's Scotch. More notes: very creamy mid palate gave me an ever so brief celery on its quick finish- probably a result of the sherry presence. Might sound strange, but is very- and I do mean very- drinkable. Absolutely my favorite Glenlivet, and seasonally speaking, my favorite Summer Scotch.
