It's ok, nothing to write home about in the long run. Just my opinion.
I had this at an arcade gaming bar, was in the mood for a bourbon on the rocks and saw that they had Makers Mark as a choice. It had flavors, which of themselves were nice, it was savory and buttery, decent tasting bourbon, but really harsh, I was expecting something smooth and easy sipping, boy were my taste buds thrown off. To me this is nothing but an over priced and highly marked bourbon. I'd recommend Evan Williams Black Label Bourbon if you want a smoother sipping bourbon.

Makers Mark Smooth Bourbon
Hey, drinks are a personal choice.   I'm from Kentucky, and have tried many bourbons while in KY.  I do prefer Makers Mark over almost all others, and drink it on most days.   It's very smooth, sweet and goes down smooth and doesn't have a bad after taste.   I can usually taste a bourbon and tell you what brand it is.   I don't want to cut down any other bourbon or whiskey like Byon G. (just not cool), it's a personal preference, taste is unique, and mostly what you are used too.   However, I have enabled many others to just taste Makers, and they have have converted with no pressure at all.  Sometimes I drink Jack Daniels.   I keep trying others, but Makers is the standard.   The one I like better than Makers for sipping straight is "Basil Haydens" it's from the Jim Beam family, but too me is very smooth.   Other cheaper less familiar bourbon is "Henry McKenna", and "Evan Williams" as a Jack Daniels knock off. Your tastes may vary, and It's all good! ;-)

Great fpr sipping
My goto bourbon on the rocks. After many years of various bourbons, I find this to be the smoothest and most enjoyable to just sit around and sip. Sweet without the strong bite of many others. Like Old Fitzgerald, it is made using wheat rather than rye based mash. By the way, If you have not tried Old Fitzgerald you should. Another smooth sipping bourbon.

Over priced, over hyped, over marketed, snob bourbon. I can't figure out why people say this is good bourbon. It's harsh mid shelf quality at best, but has a top shelf price. That's why I rate it 2 stars. I think most people see the fancy bottle with the wax seal on the top shelf and think it is good quality. Try a blind taste test against other whiskeys and you will see it is seldom anyone's favorite. Lately, Makers Mark has been advertising heavily, especially on TV. That's all you need to know about it's quality. If it is as good as they claim, why spend millions marketing it? Jim Beam is better and much lower cost.
