A Pumpkin Ale for ale lovers, not pumpkin pie-sh.
An ale that has pumpkin at its base without all the spices that usually are thrown into the mix.  Well balanced with the 9% abv not over bearing.   I had this beer last year and was looking forward to the 2013 brew.  I was not disappointed.

Methinks not.
A: Pours a golden reddish copper amber color. 2 finger head dissipates and leaves delicate lacing. S: Very faint alcoholic fruit smell, barely there, does not smell like pumpkin. T: First taste I noticed just alcohol, no pumpkin taste appears until the beer has warmed considerably and even then the pumpkin taste is weak albeit nonexistent. This tastes like several other beers which aren't even fruit beers. All I am tasting is alcohol and no complex fruit flavors. M: Slightly carbonated, the body of the beer goes flat once it warms. O: I had high hopes for this beer when I picked it off the shelf today at Bevmo. The description of Santa Cruz pumpkins piqued my interest and I imagined it would be glorious. The beer does a terrible job of hiding the 9% abv. Everytime I take a swig I'm reminded of the alcohol percentage which gets boring after a while. I would say the best beers manage to conceal a strong abv and allow other flavors to mingle on the tongue. I feel like I am just drinking a cheap beer with no actual flavor. I would say this is even worse than the Sam Adams Pumpkin ale and that one is pretty disappointing as well. Overall I will never buy this beer again or anything made by Fruit Crate.
